Global Exchange, Ventura County Supporters, are pleased to present a talk by Lily Karam and Lulu Emery who will discuss the ever growing number of refugees in the Middle East.  The program will conduct an overview of refugees in Lebanon, Iraq, the Palestinian territories and, lastly, Syria where a two year civil war is creating large numbers of desperate displaced persons.  There will also be a discussion of the work done by volunteers to bring injured children to Southern California for needed medical interventions.

Lily Karam is a native Palestinian who has lived in Southern California for almost 40 years.  She is a successful business woman, a long time humanitarian activist and President of the Palestine Children's Relief Fund.  Lulu Emery, a retired registered nurse earned her nursing degree from the Jordan College of Nursing in Amman, Jordan where she later served as nursing instructor.  In 1999 she participated in a medical fact finding mission to Iraq, visiting various hospitals and schools.  She is a Board member of The Palestine Children's Relief Fund.
