Ventura County Supporters present:
“UPDATE AFGHANISTAN”
Tuesday, December 3, 2013
Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road
7:00 P.M- 8:30 P.M.

Global Exchange, Ventura County Supporters, are pleased to present a talk by Maryam Qudrat, Ph.D., Professor at California State University Long Beach and a Fellow at UC Irvine’s Center for Ethics and Morality.  Dr. Qudrat holds in PhD in philosophy from the University of  Southern California.  In 2003, she authored a book entitled Torn Between Two Cultures:  An Afghan-American Woman Speaks Out.  She has traveled extensively in the region and has made numerous appearances on media such as CNN, TIME Magazine and The Los Angeles Times.
As our troops depart this vital South Asian country after America’s longest war, what should Americans know about what we are leaving behind?  What is the current status of basic education, higher education, women’s affairs and public health?  And what should we expect about the future relationship between Afghanistan and the United States?
Local Board Members of two elementary schools for Afghan Refugee Girls will also be on hand to display Afghan jewelry, shawls and other  South Asian items, available with donations to the schools in refugee camps in northwest Pakistan.
Please plan to join us for an informative evening and an opportunity to do some holiday shopping.
A question and answer period will follow this presentation.

This program is free and open to the public.  Contributions will be gratefully accepted.
