We are pleased to conclude our fall series on the Arab Spring with a presentation on” The Arab Spring in North Africa” by Dr. Hamoud Salhi, Associate Professor in the Political Science Department at California State University Dominguez Hills.  He will be discussing the evolution of the Arab Spring in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya, as well as commenting on the situation in Algeria and Morocco.  A native of Algeria, Dr. Salhi is a recognized expert on the Middle East who has written numerous articles and appeared on various panels both in the United States and the Middle East.

In addition to teaching political science courses, Dr. Salhi is the Director of the University’s Negotiations, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding program.  A frequent guest on KPFK radio,
Dr. Salhi was recently featured in a documentary on prominent Algerian Americans titled “Success Stories from the U.S.”, which was produced by Algerian National Television and the U.S. State Department. He is also actively involved in promoting better understanding among Muslims, Christians and Jews in Southern California. 

A question and answer period will follow the presentation, which is free and open to the public.  Donations will be gratefully accepted to help us continue such programs.

As with our previous November programs, we will be joined by a group that sponsors two schools for Afghan refugee girls. They will display merchandise from Afghanistan and the region, including clothing, shawls and jewelry, which are given as gifts for donations to the schools.  Information and photos about the schools will also be displayed.  Currently over 600 girls are enrolled. with  $55 covering  the expenses for a full school year for one girl. This will be a great opportunity to do your holiday shopping while contributing to a very worthy cause. Donations are also welcome.
