For most of its history over the last 60 years, Pakistan was usually considered an ally of the United States.  Yet in recent years, diplomats, generals, politicians, and the media have labeled Pakistan as “the most dangerous country in the world”.
What is the basis for that judgment and how did it come about?  Dr. Paul Hanson, Professor of History at California Lutheran University, will discuss the history of Pakistan, its relations with its neighbors, and the internal tensions which have made it such a volatile place and threaten its stability.

Dr. Paul Hanson received his Ph.D. From the University of Chicago, specializing in the Islamic period of South Asian history.  Over the last four decades, he has frequently traveled and taught in the Indian subcontinent and was twice awarded Fulbright Scholarships in India.  Other national fellowships and awards have enabled him to study in London, Sri Lanka and Jordan. Dr. Hanson is a founding board member of the South Asian Studies Association.
